“I think women often feel like they have to be either smart or beautiful, either powerful or pretty. You don’t have to compromise who you are as a woman to fit somebody’s expectation of what power looks like—you can be fabulous and fearless.”

Actress Kerry Washington articulates the concept behind her recent collaboration with costume designer Lyn Paolo and The Limited’s head designer Elliot Staples, inspired by the popular drama Scandal.

The Limited’s Scandal inspired clothing line was designed specially for the contemporary woman to feel “feminine and beautiful, and still feel in full control.” Elliot Staples describes the line as “a tool kit for taking over a room.” Rather than forcing professional women to find a middle ground, pieces in this new collection empower women to use fashion to their advantage with an endless array of elegant and sophisticated possibilities.
