Growing up, if you ever happened to over-pluck your eyebrows into extinction at a middle school sleepover, you were forced to live with your mistake for years to come. Now, that couldn’t be further from the truth. A simple search for “eyebrow tutorial” on YouTube yields hundreds of videos demonstrating how to transform underwhelming arches into bold brows. Copious products exist for this purpose, ranging from mousses to gels, pencils to powders, and even microblading for those who desire a permanently perfect pair. In short, anyone who wants beautiful eyebrows can attain them. In addition to finding the ideal product for your brows, choosing the correct, face-framing shape is equally important. Some faces look striking with sharp, arched brows, while others look best with straighter, soft brows. Experimenting with eyebrow shapes like the ones below is a great way to change up your look and make your facial features pop.

Angelic Brows

Straight eyebrows can make your face look youthful and delicate. The lack of harsh arch softens features for a sweet look. Celebrities like Ariana Grande and Natalie Portman are fans of straight brows, and it certainly contributes to their elegant vibe. To achieve these brows, use a powder eyebrow product like the Natasha Denona Eyebrow Shadow Mono to gently fill in the shape in a natural way, without the bold definition of a gel or pencil.

Pin-up Brows

Eyebrows with a sharp arch are reminiscent of classic pin-up girls; they’re edgy, striking, and help to create a more mysterious look than straight brows. This shape is worn by celebrities like Megan Fox and Penelope Cruz, and is best achieved with a pencil or a gel product like the Anastasia Beverly Hills DIPBROW™ Pomade to heighten the area above the natural arch and elongate the outer part of the brow.

Power Brows

Full, “unplucked” brows have perhaps never been as popular as they are today. Models with thick arches have been coveted by runways and beauty ads in recent years, popularizing a look that appears natural yet seriously high fashion. Lily Collins’s full set of brows became so celebrated that there’s an entire Twitter account devoted to them, and Amandla Stenberg sports the same carefree look. A tinted brow gel like the Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel makes this easy to achieve–simply brush the pigment through your eyebrows to add an instant volumizing effect.

Whether you’re searching for a signature look or just want to experiment with new products, trying out different eyebrow shapes is a great place to start. You’d be surprised by how much this one simple step can transform your entire face.
